You will want to make sure:
- Your employer has a sponsor license and is allowed to employ foreign nationals.
- Your job is (unless it is in a shortage occupation) at RQF level 6 or above – this is generally at least degree level work.
- You will be paid the appropriate salary level for the position
- You have maintenance to support yourself, or your sponsor is willing to certify this
- You have been issued with a Certificate of Sponsorship by your employer
- Your employer has completed a Resident Labour Market Test (unless exceptions apply)
You will often need to work alongside your proposed employer to make sure all of these requirements are met. If you are applying from outside of the UK, you must be aware that there is a monthly restriction on the number of Certificates of Sponsorship that can be issued. You can be sponsored from anywhere up to five years, after which you can apply to settle in the UK if your employer still requires you. It is possible for you to sponsor dependants to accompany you.
