Lancashire Victim Services – Victim Support Response:
Lancashire Victim Services (LVS) is delivered by Victim Support, a national charity that has been supporting victims of crime for over 45 years in Lancashire. Our service is free and confidential, and you don’t have to have reported to the police to access our support.
It also doesn’t matter when the crime occurred, we’re here when you’re ready. We support all victims of any crime including specialist services for victims of domestic violence, sexual violence and hate crime. Our children and young people’s service, NEST, supports young victims of crime between the ages of 8-18 years old. We provide emotional and practical support to enable people to cope and recover from the impact of crime and will support people to understand and navigate the criminal justice system from report to court. We work to ensure people have a voice, choice and control and are treated with respect and dignity, and that they feel valued through all the stages of their journey.
The Victim Friendly Organisation scheme was developed to educate local services, organisations and businesses and the wider community about the impact of crime to increase opportunities for victims to access the support they need.
The scheme focuses on equipping partners with the ability to recognise the impacts of crime and have a greater understanding of the needs of the individual so their services can respond appropriately.
We are delighted that Ashwood Solicitors have come on-board as a Victim Friendly Organisation, which demonstrates their commitment to understanding more about the needs of clients impacted by crime who are seeking legal advice.
Our Victim Friendly scheme is available to local services, business and organisations who are wanting to know more about how they can support victims of crime and are committed to working with us to ensure that victims’ rights are upheld, they have access to the support they need and are committed to treating those who have experienced crime with the respect and dignity that they deserve.
If you are interested in becoming a Victim Friendly Organisation please contact Gabrielle Bowers at gabrielle.bowers@victimsupport.org.uk. If you have been a victim of crime, you can contact us on 0300 323 0085 or visit www.lancashirevictimservices.org.
Ashwood Solicitors Response:
Melissa Perkins, Director of Ashwood Solicitors Limited, states:
‘We are absolutely delighted to be the first Law Firm in the country to be associated with this incredibly exciting initiative.
This is a way forward for the charity/voluntary sector to now work with private organisations such as ourselves for the benefit of the whole community.
As a Law Firm, Clients often contact us seeking advice when they are at their most vulnerable and need guidance and reassurance. Due to the fact that we are able to offer Legal Aid, we already work with a number of partner Charity organisations. With this new project, we hope to compliment not only the legal services that we already provide, but the overall package of the help that is available.
As a VFO Partner, we will now be able to provide a more holistic approach to our Clients to make sure that their needs are met, by referring or signposting them to the exact services which they require and therefore, get all the help that they need. We believe that this will benefit our Clients greatly.
We also believe that this venture will assist our team of Lawyers across both our offices to become better lawyers, not only with the training that will be available to them, but also to understand the whole picture of what the Client needs and not just the narrow issue of the legal advice they require.
As a Firm, we are very much excited that we are the first law firm to become a VFO Partner and we look forward to our continued collaboration in the future.’
